This is no ordinary Air-King…but more on that in a moment.
What exactly makes an Air-King? The proportions are perfect, the movement robust and the styling timeless. It’s not hard to make the argument that the Air-King is one of the most versatile time-only watches on the market, as all it takes is a strap change to transform this watch from go-to tuxedo accoutrement to a field watch or BBQ grill timer. When you factor in that the Air-King is available in a broad variety of dial color configurations, the appeal grows even more.
This particular example, however — a Reference 14000 — is special. Its satin silver tritium dial with baton indices is signed with the ‘Domino’s Pizza’ logo. Why this particular late-night munchies provider? Glad you asked: For a time, branch managers were incentivized toward various sales goals with a Rolex Air King — hit your goal, win a watch. Not a bad system, if you ask us! These watches aren’t easy to come by in good, correct condition, making this Reference 14000 a rare bird, indeed.
This particular example dates to circa 1997 and features a 34mm stainless steel Oyster case, a sapphire crystal, a signed crown, a polished steel bezel, an automatic Rolex Calibre 3000 movement and a matching stainless steel Oyster bracelet with a signed blade clasp.
In simply outstanding condition overall and shipping with its ephemera, it’s a wildly cool find, perfect for Rolex collectors and fans of late-night pizza.
Don’t sleep on it!
